An amber ale with red and coppery tones, this Barley Wine really stands out thanks to its floral notes, with a hint of freshness studded with caramelized, roasted flavours. The selection of special malts brings out a touch of chocolate, combined with a little bit of coconut. The tannin is brought out by macerated acacia shavings that add a hint of vanilla. If kept in the cellar, this exceptional beer will become even smoother and more striking.

What a nice brew! A really dark brown beer with a nice beige head. Beefstock, roasted malts, dried fruits and some alcohol in the aroma. The flavor is much the same, with more emphasis on the roasted malts, tending towards coffee. Also raisins and prunes, beef-stock and some alcohol. Coffee-like finish with bitterness of the same kind. Medium mouthfeel.

Good drinking, enough complexity to savour each sip. Easily a dessert beer, not for the likings of your average. Very enjoyable Stout

A fruity blond beer with an explosion of citrus, resulting from dry-hopping with the American hops breed Cascade. In order to maintain the hoppy aroma as much as possible, the beer isn’t filtered. It is slightly cloudy and has a snow white head. It is served in a robust, accompanying glass. At the first international Belgian beer contest, the Brussels Beer Challenge, Armand Ter Dolen won a gold medal. The beer was created in honour of Ter Dolen’s co-founder Armand Desplenter, the father of current director Mieke Desplenter.

Hazy golden color, with nice white head. Aroma nice american hops, fruity. Medium body. Taste good fruits from the American hop, nice bitterness, dry end. Recommended.

Hop Ruiter (Hop Rider) has a full, almost rustic malt body, and pairs Belgian yeast-driven flavors with American assertive hoppiness. It is dry hopped, with two noble varieties which add complexity, delicacy and a bit of funk. Orange with golden hue, frothy head, bit murky, gentle carbonation. Aroma is very fruity and hoppy, with pineapple, pine, lemon. Faintest hint of carrot juice. Reminds of ipa, but it’s not that harsh. Taste starts fruity again, with notes of exotic fruit. Develops a fruity, doughy bitterness, with a distinct boozy sensation. Really a great example of the style, worth seeking out.

Now more than ten years ago, a group of friends started a beer tasting club. Every two weeks they came together at one of their homes to drink a good Belgian beer and to discuss beer, women and football. During the years the interest in beer grew. This resulted in following brewing courses in 2007. From that year on, they started “Hobbybrouwerij Het Nest (Home Brewery the Cradle)”. Their first success was a third place at the Open Dutch Championship for home brewers in the “triple” class.

Strong fruity wooden toffee aroma with alcohol and spice notes. Sweetish coke and toast taste with licorice, fruit, and wood notes. Sweetish fruity spicy herbal aftertaste with licorice and earth notes. Excellent balance of wood character, cellar character, freshness, sweetness, and bitterness. Quite impressive..

Beer of spontaneous fermentation, the Oude Mûre Tilquin à l’Ancienne is made from the fermentation of 350 gr of blackberries by liter of lambic. Unfiltered and unpasteurized, this beer is refermented in the bottle. Ingredients : water, malt, wheat, hops, blackberries.

Appearance is red purple, white head, hazy. Aroma is funky, sour, blackberries, barnyard, wonderful. Taste is funky, tart, sour, wonderful blackberry, barnyard, real good. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, light crisp carbonation, funky blackberry aftertaste. Overall, really really solid.

A description of the delicate aroma resembles a journey through a tropical greenhouse, the floral and fruity scents, the taster induced response. Orange blossom, violets and honeysuckle go hand in hand with pear, peach, lime and mango. The complexity is complemented with notes of vanilla and clove and complemented by a notion of lavender. After this fresh bouquet comes the resounding of a pleasant and unexpected surprise. The onset of the beer is sweet and reminiscent of homemade marmalade, to be taken over by the alcohol and a refreshing spiciness.
